Previously used in Tibet for meditation and ceremonial purposes, Tibetan Singing Bowls are struck with a padded mallet or rubbed around the rim with a playing mallet to produce a fascinating blend of harmonic resonances and rich overtones.
The Tibetan Singing Bowls offered by Bodhisattva Trading Co. Inc., are guaranteed to be authentic antiques from the Himalayas, and are between 100 and 400 years old.
Each special singing bowl has been personally selected in the Himalayas by Tibetan musicologist and recording artist Rain Gray, who has been collecting, researching and recording Tibetan Singing Bowls for over 30 years.
Our Tibetan Singing Bowls are Master-quality®, meaning they have passed our stringent quality control standards for:
- age
- beauty
- ease and smoothness of playing
- harmonic balance of sounds
- sound volume
- long lasting sustain
Of the tens of thousands of bowls we test each year, only half of a percent (0.005%) percent achieve this standard.
Tibetan Singing Bowls come in sizes from under 4 inches to over 13 inches in diameter, and are available in ten different types.
Rain Gray has been living and traveling in the Himalayas for over 30 years, collecting and importing Master-quality® Tibetan singing bowls. Having been a member of the Tibetan community of Southern California since the mid 80's, Rain was instrumental in the early activism for a Free Tibet and his efforts helped lead to the founding of the Los Angeles chapter of Friends of Tibet. An international recording artist, Rain released the world's first all-digital recording of Tibetan singing bowls, One Hand Clapping: Tibetan Bells with Environmental Sounds. On this website, Rain shares his research on the historical and metallurgical aspects of the bowls, as well as information on their use for meditation, metaphysical and holistic healing. With Rain, Shakti co-founded Bodhisattva Trading Company in 1996, and helped to build the company into the premier direct importer of Master-quality®, antique Tibetan singing bowls. Representing Bodhisattva, Shakti has been a constant presence at yoga, sound healing, and holistic conferences throughout the country. She has trained thousands of people in singing bowl technique, including leading yoga and meditation teachers such as Shiva Rea and Sally Kempton. In addition to managing the on-going operations of Bodhisattva, Shakti focuses on the creation of custom-assembled, chakra-tuned singing bowl sets for holistic healers, musicians and collectors world wide. Bodhisattva Trading Company's mission is to provide the finest quality Tibetan singing bowls found in the West along with other Tools For An Enlightened World™. |
